Designed to meet a patient's needs following their surgery, the Extended Care Unit provides professional nursing care in an attractive homelike environment.

What services are provided in the overnight unit?

You may have one visitor / family member stay with you the night of the surgery. We will provide a very comfortable recliner for your guest.

Complimentary soft drinks, juice, tea or coffee are provided for patients and visitors by our staff. Patient meals will be provided by our staff and depend on the particular diet your doctor has prescribed. There are vending machines available for visitors. However, our staff will be happy to recommend restaurants and / or fast food places near our facility.

If my child will be staying, what should I expect?

A parent is required to stay if the patient is an infant or small child. Diapers and formula are not provided, so please bring these items with you. Our staff will assist the parent in staying with the infant, if a break is needed. Sometimes a short walk outside is refreshing for the patient.

Will I have access to a telephone during my stay?

There is a telephone at the bed side for local calls. To make collect or credit card calls, dial 0 + area code + number. A recording will come on at this point and give you further instructions. There is a phone directory in the nightstand should you need to look up a local number.

The Extended Recovery Unit telephone number is (405) 751-4957. You may give this number to your family and friends. Try to limit your calls so that you can rest and recover from your surgery properly.

Are there any special considerations for visitors?

For your safety, the main doors are locked between 5:00pm - 6:00pm You may exit the building from 5:00pm - 9:00pm without setting off the alarms. To re-enter the building, press the intercom button at the exit door to the right of the main doors and one of the nurses will identify you and admit you to the building. After 9:00pm, visiting hours are over and the alarms will be set, so PLEASE DO NOT EXIT without TALKING with one of our staff first.

Our building is considered a "smoke-free environment" as with most health care facilities today. You will not be allowed to smoke in your room. Please communicate this to your visitors. Visitors may smoke outside at the front entrance.

What personal items should I bring from home?

You will need to bring your own personal items, such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, brush or comb, (lingerie or pajamas are optional, but not required).

The room has a TV.

When will I be able to return home?

Since we are licensed to care for patients no longer than 24 hours, expect to be going home early the next morning. Many physicians discharge their patients early. Some may want you to be seen at his / her office before going home. Your discharge time will be explained to you by our staff. Upon discharge, we will review with you any prescriptions written by your physician and a copy of your discharge instructions. If you have any questions after leaving our center concerning your post-operative recovery, please contact your physician.

A member of our staff will be calling you the day after your discharge, or on Monday following a Friday discharge.
